A ONE MONTH JOURNAL Sept-2004  And now, the journal dedicated to the child singlehandedly responsible for the world's diaper toxicity crisis: Mr. "Where else would you like me to put it?" -Isaiah Today's Entry: Snowed in2004-12-23 - 9:00 p.m. How can something so beautiful cause so much trauma to people like me? It snowed 12-16 inches here on Tuesday night and Wednesday as well. The roads cleared fairly quickly, but driveways did not! It was a beautiful sight early Wednesday morning when I got up at 530. The decision whether to close down the clinic was mine to make. There was no way our staff would be able to safely make it in. And even if they did, our patients probably should not try it even if they could. Pregnant women don't have that kind of balance to handle icy sidewalks. So I closed it down. Unfortunately, that meant spending the entire call day in the hospital taking care of women in labor whose infants didn't care if the roads were impassable.Here's the view from our breakfast nook across our pond. Eerily arctic like, isn't it? The dogs would soon run across the ice and discover the joy of a nearly frictionless surface.
This is the view of my driveway from the bottom and from the top. I made it no further. Nathan and I spent nearly the entire day on Thursday shoveling out the driveway. I didn't realize how irrational that project was. I should've just hired some guy in his 4x4 snow-shovel equipped pickup to clear the road for me. But, as Nathan put it, "Dad, we wouldn't have known we were strong enough to do it then!" I am constantly reminded I was strong enough to do it this evening as I tried to get my sore muscles to let me sleep.
