Today's Entry: Hop, skip, and a jump away

2005-02-02 - 9:11 a.m.

What a rainy, miserable day. It makes walking to places I need to be a soggy chore. But, I am fortunate that my office is connected to the hospital by an enclosed breezeway. Otherwise I'd have to run through the cold drizzle to get anyplace. It's convenient too when a laboring mom is getting close to delivery, that I can run past the coffee shop, up the back stairs, and be in L&D in 45 seconds. There have been a few times in the past 9 1/2 years that a few seconds saved in getting to the bedside quickly has counted.

Having things close also makes it possible for me to check frequently with my moms and see how their labor is progressing. It would be a real pain to walk the three blocks over here to assess a patient in labor like one of my colleague friends has to do. I look out my office window sometimes and wave to him as he goes by. Maybe I'll rub it in someday and put up a sign that reads 'If you practiced in this building you'd already be here.' That ought to go over real well.

Here's a pic of my little guy getting his tub bath the other night. He had just finished spreading broccoli and all kinds of other vegetables on his face and shirt during dinner. Looks kinda innocent, doesn't he? Ha. Don't let that little angelic face fool you.
