A ONE MONTH JOURNAL Sept-2004  And now, the journal dedicated to the child singlehandedly responsible for the world's diaper toxicity crisis: Mr. "Where else would you like me to put it?" -Isaiah Today's Entry: Even warriors get bedhead2005-11-04 - 8:26 p.m. Why do little boys like swords so much? I thought maybe Nathan and Elijah were anomalies when it came to edged tools of combat, but apparently that fascination comes with the Y chromosome. Isaiah, just like his brothers, seems instinctually drawn to sword play. He and the boys charge around the house clanging plastic swords together. If no toy sword is within reach, then any stick will do. Things got a little dicey when it came to household furnishings, so that activity got itself banned to outdoors. The wooden broadsword he sports in his right hand was acquired in the Sherwood Forest of Notingham - the helmet comes from a gourd tree in Puerto Rico. Pretty intimidating presence, don't you think?This morning, Isaiah woke up from his "big boy bed" in his usual cheerful frame of mind, and with the usual disheveled look two year-old's seem so blissfully not to notice. He came and sat on the floor to watch me as I finished shaving and got my laptop ready for work. That hair flying out in all directions just needed documentation. Twelve to thirteen years from now, it will be a different story when adolescent awarness of body image changes a few things for him. Brenda, Kelsey, and Isaiah are in Nashville this weekend for Lina's baby shower. The boys are at Ken and Roxanne's for a few days helping them care for the horses. I, sadly, am alone for the next few days while I'm on call. With several deliveries anticipated, it should be busy enough to lessen the loneliness that always comes when everyone is away.
